This MagSafe charger that looks like a macaron is my new favorite travel accessory

ZDNET’s key takeaways

The Anker MagGo 3-1 wireless charger is on sale at Amazon for $76.It features 15W fast Apple Watch and iPhone charging, and can power up to three devices at once. However, it doesn’t have a phone stand feature.

With winter in full swing, you might be thinking of a getaway somewhere much warmer (I know I am). If jet-setting is in your future, bringing a reliable charger for your most important tech is a must.

As ZDNET’s mobile accessory expert, I have a mountain of mobile gear from MagSafe battery packs keeping my essential tech powered up no matter where I am, and Anker’s 3-1 wireless charger has just taken my top spot.

The MagGo 3-1 wireless foldable charger makes charging my iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro a breeze, and it’s bite-sized form factor is the best option I’ve tried for power and practicality.

This charger is similar in size to a pair of AirPods Pro and uses a three-pad design to fold flat into multiple MagSafe wireless charging pads, then flips back together into a macaron-like ball you can toss into your carry-on. Starting at $80, it comes in four colors: Pink Aura, Black Stone, Aurora White, or Teal Oasis, with a USB-C cable and wall adapter included.

Also: I tested the viral ‘tangle-free’ USB-C cable, and it’s my new travel essential

I’ve tested plenty of other MagSafe wireless chargers, and my longstanding favorite had been Anker’s 3-1 Wireless Charger and Stand for similar reasons. But after testing this Anker model, it’s quickly elevated to my top spot for it’s fun color options, ultra-small design, and practicality.

Anker vs Anker

Here’s the thing. I am fortunate enough to test a lot of MagSafe chargers, many of which are different configurations and styles of multi-chargers. I know not everyone can do that, so here’s the deal with all these 3-1 chargers on the market, many which come from the exact same brands.

The Anker MagGo Wireless 3-1 charger that I have personally been using prior to testing this macaron-like model also features 15W fast charging, has folding components, and can be traveled with. The biggest difference is instead of flipping out flat into three charger pads, the various components arrange in a phone stand.

Prior to testing this newer Anker charger, which was unveiled at IFA last year, the QDOS Snapstand was the most compact and slim foldable option I had tried. And it’s still slimmer than this Anker 3-1 model — but it’s also heavier.

The major difference with this form factor is that it takes up more surface area on a table or desk, so it may not be the best fit for an at-home setup. But it edges out other wireless chargers thanks to its easy-to-carry and lightweight design. This charger is perfect for tossing in a purse or everyday bag, and is significantly lighter than lugging around either of the other charges I just mentioned. Truly perfect for daily commuting, frequent travelers, or those who pack light.

Fast charging for multiple devices

The most important thing about a charger is ultimately how well it powers your devices. Thankfully, this Anker 3-in-1 model worked as I expected it, and on par with other wireless chargers I’ve tried. The included adapter works great, and the 15W fast charging for my Apple products was appreciated.

My iPhone 14 Pro, Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen), and my AirPods Pro 2 arranged on the Anker MagGo 3-in-1 foldable wireless charger.

My Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen) went from 63% to 100% in just under an hour. In a half hour, my AirPods Pro case went from 50% to 73% (the AirPods inside from 81% to 83%). Thirty minutes later, my AirPods case was at 87%. My iPhone 14 Pro performed just as well. In 30 minutes my phone went from 60% to 80%, and in an hour, it was up to 93%.

Also: Apple fans will love this versatile Qi2 charging station from Amazon (and it’s on sale)

With multi-charging, I didn’t notice any compromise in speed compared to my regular 3-in-1 charger, which again, is Anker’s MagGo 3-in-1 stand version. It worked like a charm to charge my phone and Apple Watch overnight, although I still prefer a stand configuration on my bedside table because it saves tabletop space.

ZDNET’s buying advice

Ultimately, the best multi-charger for you will depend on what you need, and how much you’re looking to spend. If you already have a 3-1 charger at home and need a travel charger, I’d recommend this little Anker 3-in-1 model every time. It comes in fun colors and is more lightweight than most competitors I’ve tried, which makes it the ultimate travel option.

Also: The best wireless chargers: Expert tested

But if you’re buying a 3-1 charger for the first time, I highly encourage you to consider a foldable 3-in-1 wireless charger than offers a stand feature. That way you can travel with it when you need to, but leave it at your bedside when you don’t. It’s the best ROI, in my opinion, unless you don’t want a phone stand at all.
